Notes:
This coin was not intended for circulation. It was encapsulated and distributed in a burgundy leatherette, hinged lid presentation case carrying the IOC Olympic rings and the centennial dates 1896 -1996. The reverse design honours the concept of fair play and mutual respect engendered by the Olympics. It depicts three women Olympic medal winners, champions all, saluting one another and genuinely sharing in each other's joy.
13,073 Silver Proof 'Fair Play' coins were released individually, 7,642 were included as part of a 3 coin proof set and a further 6,199 were included in a Silver Proof Pair released by the Canberra mint as one of five partner mints selected by the IOC to participate in a five year program celebrating the first 100 years of the modern Olympic Games.
The Olympic motto of Faster, Higher, Stronger (Citius, Altius, Fortius) is edge lettered around each coin - a first for an Australian coin.
