Notes:

This coin was not released individually. It was struck for inclusion in a special Masterpieces in Silver collector proof set entitled Coins of the 20th Century - Milestones released by the Canberra Mint. The reverse design is struck from a modified die used to produce the 1995 United Nations Twenty Cents.

While most Australian commemorative coins of the post decimal era have been issued as fifty cent or one dollar coins, for the 1995 United Nations 50th Anniversary coin the florin equivalent was used once more, with a reverse design by Horst Hahne.

The U.N. held its first meeting on ANZAC Day, 1945. Australia played a crucial role in the establishment of the U.N. Charter through the dedicated work of the then Minister for External Affairs, Dr Herbert Evatt. In 1948, Dr Evatt was made the president of the U.N. General Assembly - a milestone in Australia's growing maturity as a nation in the modern world.
