1999 Australian Kookaburra $1 Silver Bullion European Currencies Privy Mark Collection


The European Currencies Privy Mark Collection, consisting of 11 one ounce bullion silver two kookaburras $1 coins, was released by the Perth Mint in three shipments during 1999. Each coin in the collection commemorates the currency of one of the 11 countries which form the European Monetary Union.

The countries and privy marks of the coins released are:
  • Germany - Deutche Mark.
  • Austria - 20 Schilling.
  • Luxembourg - 50 Franc.
  • Netherlands - Guilder.
  • Belgium - 50 Franc.
  • Finland - Markka.
  • France - 5 Franc.
  • Italy - 1,000 Lire.
  • Spain - 100 Peseta.
  • Portugal - 50 Escudo, and
  • Ireland - Punt.
  • Mintage was limited to 5,000 of each coin. 1,000 collections were reserved for distribution within Australia by ballot through the Perth Mint's mail list. A dark blue leatherette presentation case was released to house the entire collection, which was accompanied by a numbered explanation booklet.
