    Notes:

Anzac Day 2000 marked the 85th anniversary of the first time that Australian and New Zealand troops fought side by side in a major international military conflict. Since then, Anzac day has become a time for Australians to reflect on, and remember those who served the country during war throughout the nation's short history.
Apart from the 1915 dated sovereign and half sovereign, the set includes a replica of the Gallipoli Medallion lapel badge issued by the Defence Department in 1966 for all surviving Gallipoli veterans or their next of kin. The design depicts Private J S Kirkpatrick (more famously known as Simpson) and his donkey, Duffy. The two carried many wounded men from the Gallipoli battlefield back to the beachhead until Simpson was killed while attempting yet another rescue.
The famous 'rising sun' badge of the Australian Army is also included in the set. This badge was first worn by the Australian Imperial Forces soldiers in World War I and has become an integral part of the 'digger' tradition. The design was originally based on a semi-circle of rifles and bayonets surrounding a brass crown.
