| A-632 | Obverse: ONE PENNY in 2 straight lines with short broken bars above & below within a plain inner circle. ADVANCE AUSTRALIA above, round within indented rim and three crosses below. Top line of ONE well above last A in AUSTRALIA. Reverse: Justice standing with scales and cornucopia. Narrow folds in drapery. Sea and ship in background. Horizon is higher on left than on right. NEW SOUTH WALES round above within beaded rim. Scale bar is level with the back of the E in NEW and the S of WALES is well above the hand on the cornucopia. |

Many more varieties of this token have been reported with slight variations in the shape and size of the letters and bars. This appears to be the result of the drop-hammer method used to manufacture the tokens. All have a common flaw connecting the C of ADVANCE with the inner circle which indicates the use of the same die and therefore that variations are due to the method of manufacture.
While the tokens have no makers name or issuer, the roughness of workmanship and tendency to double strike lettering is very similar to the workmanship found on tokens attributed to Whitty & Brown, indicating that they very likely have a common origin.
