This coin was included as part of a 150th Anniversary 5 coin silver proof set.

The reverse design depicts the HMS Tory, the ship used to transport the first group of settlers from England to New Zealand in 1840. Although not the first European settlement, the Tory is significant in that it marks the beginning of British colonization of the country.
