New Zealand Dollars


In 1990, the size and composition of the dollar coin was altered to change its role from a large, mainly commemorative piece to a smaller circulation coin which would replace the dollar note within 12 months. The reverse kiwi design was chosen to bring reality to the commonly used colloquial term of 'Kiwi Dollar'.
