1998 Silver 1951 Federation Florin Twenty Cents |

After long years of economic hardship and war, the 1950's saw Australians in a more optimistic mood. Fifty years after Federation, the nation was on the threshold of a remarkable period of growth and prosperity in which all could share.

It was the era of the 'baby boom', family values and the suburban backyard. The commemorative florin released in this jubilee year espoused loftier values, with its simple, symbolic reverse design by William Leslie Bowles. It depicts a crown above a crossed sword and mace, complete with the stars of the Southern Cross.
