Notes:

This coin was not released individually. It was struck for inclusion in a special Masterpieces in Silver collector proof set entitled Coins of the 20th Century - Milestones released by the Canberra Mint. The reverse design is struck from a modified die used to produce the 1938 Florin.

Although the celebrations may not have rivalled those of the BiCentenary in scale, pomp and circumstance, Australians took to the streets to mark the passing of 150 years of Eurpoean settlement.

The parade of floats in Sydney included a replica of the special pavillion built for the swearing in of Ministers after Federation in 1901. It was an appropriate year to update the coat of arms on the coinage - it had been technically incorrect since 1912, when the original 1908 Australian coat of arms was changed. The new design was executed by George Kruger Gray.
