Notes:

This coin was included as part of a 6 coin proof set and a 6 coin mint set released by the Canberra mint.

Identical dies were used in Canberra, Wales and Canada. Coins struck in Wales and Canada were bagged while Canberra issues were distributed in Mint Rolls. Apart from coins contained in Mint Rolls, Proof Sets and Mint Sets, the issuing mint for a particular 1981 twenty cent coin is difficult to determine.

Two distinct 1981 20 cent types have been observed. Type 1, struck in Canberra and Wales, has a concave obverse field, the platypus has 4 claws and the bottom of the lettering is flat. Type 2, struck in Canada, has a flat obverse field, the platypus has 3 and a half claws and the lettering has curved bottoms. Only Type 1 coins are found in mint rolls, mint sets and proof sets.
