High quality forgeries of this coin exist. See the forgeries article for more information.
This coin is highly sought by collectors. It was produced when Melbourne mint officials decided to re-engrave unused dies from 1921. Officially, the mint denied that this occurred, probably in an attempt to cover up a poor engraving job. From the prices collectors are willing to pay, it is evident that they have over-ruled any official denial. Most examples found are in lower grades of preservation, only three are known in EF or better condition.
