2000 16 Coin $5 Silver Proof Olympics Collection


The Perth Mint, in a joint program with the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra, released this set of 16 coins over a two and a half year period between October, 1997 and May, 2000. The coins were released in pairs, one coin in each release reflecting the coming together of peoples and ideas in our culturally diverse nation while the other highlights the environmental richness of the Australian continent. The set comprises:
  • Festival of the Dreaming,
  • Kangaroo & Grasstrees,
  • A Sea of Change - Early Settlement,
  • Great White Shark, Coral & Seaweed,
  • A Sea of Change - Immigrants from Many Lands,
  • Frilled Lizard & Sturt's Desert Pea,
  • Reaching the World - Commerce,
  • Emu & Wattle,
  • Reaching the World - Sport & the Arts,
  • Koala & Flowering Gums,
  • Harbour of Life - Water - Sydney Harbour,
  • Platypus, Ferns & Marsh plants,
  • Harbour of Life - Land - Opera House & Buildings,
  • Echidna & Native Orchids,
  • Harbour of Life - Air, and
  • Kookaburra & Waratah. The coins in the collection are housed, individually encapsulated, in a hinged lid jarrah presentation case. Each set is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity together with a medallion.
