Carolyn's view of the meaning of the Year of the Family is reflected in her design:
'In Australia there are many types of families and the bonds which link these families are diverse. The image I have used is deliberately ambiguous in the sense that it is not representative of any particular race, religion of gender. The design is bold and friendly with an element of fun and without emphasis on the individual. The strength of the lines is symbolic of the strength of the family as a unit and communicates the positivity of the family.'Source: Presentation Card for the 1994 Mint Set - Canberra Mint.
The Royal Australian Mint also released a 'Gumnut' Baby Mint Set in 1994. See the separate entry.
