1992 Royal Ladies Masterpieces in Gold

The 1992 Royal Ladies Masterpieces in Gold set was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Accession of Queen Elizabeth II (1952 - 1992). The set consists of 4 Proof 22 Carat Gold (.916 Fine) Two Hundred & Fifty Dollar coins portraying Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse of each with reverse portraits of:
  • the Queen Mother,
  • Princess Diana,
  • Princess Ann and
  • Princess Margaret.

A 34 mm diameter, 53.93 gram, plain edged Gold Medallion Royal with an obverse design depicting the Queen on the throne completes the set which had a total mintage of 1,045. The reverse design on the medallion links the issue of the set to the Commonwealth Games Federation. Fundraising to secure the future viability of the Games was the second purpose for the issue of the set.

The coins and Medallion Royal are displayed in a timber frame which can be removed from the presentation case for see-both-sides viewing. The case is crafted from Australian native timbers - Fiddleback Blackwood for the case with Tasmanian Oak burl veneer inserts - and embellished with rich burgundy velvet.
