1985-93 Ten Dollar State Series

The Australian State Series consisting of eight Ten Dollar silver coins was released in both Proof and Specimen grade, one coin per year, by the Royal Australian Mint over the nine years from 1985 to 1993. The series was interrupted for one year in 1988 when a $10 coin commemorating Australia's bicentennial of the landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove, not considered to be part of the series, was issued.

The reverse designs of the 8 coins depict the Coat of Arms of each of Australia's States and Territories. They are:

  • 1985 Victoria,
  • 1986 South Australia,
  • 1987 New South Wales,
  • 1989 Queensland,
  • 1990 Western Australia,
  • 1991 Tasmania,
  • 1992 Northern Territory and
  • 1993 Australian Capital Territory
  • A special black hinged lid presentation case was released to house the entire collection.

The last coin, the Australian Capital Terrirory, having the lowest mintages of the series, has determined the maximum number of available State Series sets - 19,288 Specimen and 21,183 Proof.
