1983 6 Coin Proof Set

This set represents the annual release by the Royal Australian Mint of proof versions of Australia's circulating coins. The 1983 set consists of six coins:

One Cent,

Two Cents,

Five Cents,

Ten Cents,

Twenty Cents and

Fifty Cents. A total of 80,000 proof sets were released, the six coins being housed, sealed inside a see-both-sides hard plastic case.

Notes:

By 1983, the Royal Australian Mint had begun to realise that collector interest was in danger of collapsing if it did not introduce measures to limit release numbers. The release price was not increased and the number available was reduced by 20 percent from the previous year. While not completely successful, the steps taken where in the right direction and were followed the following year by further mintage restrictions which rectified collector interest in the Australian proof series.
