1982 6 Coin Proof Set

This set represents the annual release by the Royal Australian Mint of proof versions of Australia's circulating coins. The 1982 set consists of six coins:
  • One Cent,
  • Two Cents,
  • Five Cents,
  • Ten Cents,
  • Twenty Cents and the
  • Brisbane Commonwealth Games Fifty Cents. A total of 100,000 proof sets were released, the highest number of any Australian Proof set with the exception of the 1988 Bicentenary set which has appeal to a wider range of collectors. The six coins in the set are housed, sealed inside a see-both-sides hard plastic case.

    Notes:

The high release price and issue numbers of this set make it a poor choice for investors. Although not immediately felt felt until a year later, values of the set plummeted when it became clear there were far more sets in the marketplace than collectors wished to own. The situation was addressed in the following year but was not rectified until mintage restrictions were tightened in 1984.
