This set is the first of an annual release of Australia's circulating coins struck in proof form by the Royal Australian Mint. The set consists of six coins :

One Cent,

Two Cents,

Five Cents,

Ten Cents,

Twenty Cents and the
-
Round Silver Fifty Cents.
A total of 18,110 proof sets were released, the six coins being housed, unsealed, in a blue, hinged lid presentation case.

Notes:
Because the coins in the set were not sealed, storage in other than optimum conditions has resulted in a significant portion of 1966 proof sets containing toned coins, particularly the bronze 1 and 2 cent pieces and the round silver 50 cent coin. This toning normally significantly reduces the value of the set as shown in the above table
(aFDC).
As an experiment, twelve 1966 proof sets were later sealed in a see-both-sides hard plastic case. See the separate entry for this set.
