Notes:

The Type 3 Square Penny of 1919 was the first Kookaburra pattern struck at the Melbourne Mint. With an uncrowned effigy of George V within a circular legend on the obverse, the Type 3 was used as the base design for the ensuing types. The dies were prepared by the Melbourne firm, Stokes and Son, from a reduced medal die.

Two heavier varieties of the Type 3 pattern kookaburra penny are known. The first weighs 4.36 grams (65 grains) and the second 4.70 grams (70 grains). They have the same approximate values as the standard pattern.
