2000 28 Coin $5 Aluminium Bronze Olympics Collection


The Perth Mint, in a joint program with the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra, released this set of 28 coins over a two and a half year period between October, 1997 and May, 2000. The coins were released in batches of between 3 and 6 coins. The set comprises $5 coins celebrating the following sports:

  • Hockey,
  • Sailing,
  • Weightlifting,
  • Cycling,
  • Football,
  • Triathlon,
  • Canoe/Kayak,
  • Handball,
  • Softball,
  • Wrestling,

  • Tennis,
  • Shooting,
  • Badminton,
  • Fencing,
  • Table Tennis,
  • Rowing,
  • Judo,
  • Baseball,
  • Volleyball,
  • Aquatics,
  • Boxing,
  • Equestrian, and
  • Modern Pentathlon. The coins in the collection are housed, individually mounted, on credit-card style packs. A special Collection Album with sleeves to display the coins was released, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a medallion.

    Notes:

    To complement each coin in the Aluminium Bronze Olympics Collection, Australia's two mints released a Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Mascot Medallions in Colour Collection. A specially designed album was also released to house the combined $5 coin and medallion collections - a total of 56 items.
