1996 30 Years of Decimal Currency $5 Note & 10 Pane of Stamps Premium Portfolio

Note Printing Australia and Australia Post jointly issued a Premium Portfolio in 1996 featuring a QE Prefix, Red Serials $5 polymer note and a specially produced pane of 10 45c postage stamps.

The Portfolio commemorates the 30th anniversary of the conversion of Australia's currency from Pounds, Shillings and Pence to Decimal Dollars and Cents. Queen Elizabeth II's 70th birthday is celebrated on the stamps in the pack.

A total of 1,000 Premium portfolio's were sold. The $5 note in the portfolio has a serial number printed in red with a special prefix of QE (Queen Elizabeth). The stamps were printed by Note Printing Australia using the intaglio process and overprinted with '30 years of decimal currency 1966-1996'.

Notes:

There are significant premiums on low numbered sets. The following table provides an estimate of the value of the first Premium Portfolio with serial number QE 000001 which raised $1,000 for charity when it was initially offered for sale .
