1966-67 Type 1 Specimen Note Set

Type 1 specimen notes contain the word SPECIMEN within an oval printed in red, located in the watermark area. The notes were issued in 208 booklets produced specially for the changeover to decimal currency. Two notes of each of the 5 denominations - $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20 - were lightly glued in the booklet to show the front and back of each note. Even though not one of the original issues, provision was made for the $5 note (with the Coombs/Randall signature combination) introduced a year later in 1967. The serial number of each note in the set consists of the first issued prefix of each denomination followed by six zeroes.

The 5 paper note denominations in the set are:

  • 1966 Coombs/Wilson One Dollar,

  • 1966 Coombs/Wilson Two Dollars,

  • 1967 Coombs/Randall Five Dollars,

  • 1966 Coombs/Wilson Ten Dollars, and

  • 1966 Coombs/Wilson Twenty Dollars.

    Notes:

Sets of one of each of the five specimen denominations, were also issued to approximately 20 to 30 selected VIP's associated with the decimal change-over project. It is now impossible to distinguish these sets from those comprised of notes taken from the 208 booklets. The following table provides valuations for a set of the 5 Type 1 Specimen denominations (ie. a half the number of notes in the booklet).
