Notes:

The Oriental Bank Corporation was established in London in 1851. It was a large organisation with branches in Australia, New Zealand, Africa, India, Ceylon, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Malaya.The first Australian branches opened in Melbourne and Sydney in 1852. The huge area over which the company conducted business is interesting, given the slow speed of communication at the time.

Poor management led to a suspension of payments in 1884. A reconstruction occurred but no new banknotes were issued. Economic conditions deteriorated and the bank was finally forced to close, trading ceaced in 1892.
