|||
Notes:The London Chartered Bank of Australia Limited was established in London in 1852 to exploit the rapidly expanding economies of the Australian colonies. The first Australian branches opened in Sydney and Melbourne in 1853. Banknotes were issued at branches in Adelaide, Aarat, Ballaarat, Brisbane, Dunolly, Geelong, Maryborough, Melbourne and Sydney.Following a run on deposits, the bank was forced to suspend payments during the financial crisis of 1893. The company was reconstituted as the London Bank of Australia Limited which endorsed the failed bank's issued notes by altering them with an overprint. The new group was absorbed by the English, Scottish and Australian Bank Limited in 1921.
