Notes:

The Commercial Bank of Tasmania Limited was established in Hobart Town in 1829 during a pastoral boom. With sound management, the bank made good progress. Banknotes were issued from branches in Hobart Town and Launceston. Notes issued before 1900 show the bank's title as Van Diemen's Land Commercial Bank.

The bank survived for 92 years before being absorbed by the English, Scottish & Australian Bank Limited in 1921, now a part of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited.

In 1911, the bank was one of 16 banks who supplied blank note forms to the Australian Government. These notes were superscribed as redeemable in gold and issued as the first Commonwealth notes.
