The Bank of New South Wales was one of only nine banks which did not suspend payments during the run on deposits which occurred during the severe financial upheaval of 1893. To meet demand, the bank was forced to print emergency notes with designs which differed from the standard designs which had been used since 1863 (and would continue to be used after the emergency until the first superscribed Commonwealth notes were issued in 1910).
The emergency denominations issued in 1893 were:
50 Pounds
20 Pounds
10 Pounds
5 Pounds
1 Pound - First Issue
1 Pound - Later Issue
