Notes:

See the special article on Australian Star Notes. The practice of replacing notes spoiled in the printing process with so-called star notes was introduced much later for five pound notes - for the final issue only - from September, 1962. An asterisk replacing the last digit of the serial number identified the substitute note which was then placed with the stack of notes to enable an accurate accounting.
