Notes:
On 24th April, 1995, the Reserve Bank released a more brightly coloured version of the polymer $5 note designed to make it easier to differentiate it from the similarly coloured $10 note. The denomination numeral '5' was bolded and it's font simplified. In an effort to assist in the sorting of large stacks of notes, orientation bands were printed at the top and bottom.
The original orientation band was fairly wide - about 7 lines. When a number of printing plates were damaged, new plates were used which incorporated artwork from an earlier proof design of the note.
| The most notable difference is that the orientation bands on the note are much narrower. The revised artwork was used for approximately 13 million of the 95 million $5 notes printed in 1995 - all with a prefix in the range from HC 95 to KC 95. | |
