Notes:

See the special article on Australian Star Notes. The practice of replacing notes spoiled in the printing process with so-called star notes was introduced in 1948. An asterisk replacing the last digit of the serial number identified the substitute note which was then placed with the stack of notes to enable an accurate accounting.
