Notes:
This note is normally found with tiny holes as it was pinned to a Treasury letter, signed by George T. Allen, Secretary to the Treasury. Specimens still accompanied by this letter command a significant premium - see separate entry. Between 25 and 35 1913 10/- notes are believed to still exist, including presented and circulation issues.
The Coat of Arms displayed on the front of the note was a continuation of the design used on the overprint of superscribed notes in the preceeding three years. There was no official authority for the design used - it does not conform to grants for the Australian Coat of Arms given on either 7th May, 1908 (used on silver coins from 1910) or 19th September, 1912. The 'unofficial' design was used on all issues up to 1933.
