Notes:
The Perth mint report shows than 97,221 half sovereigns were struck in 1899. However, only one specimen, a proof, is known to exist. This coin, once part of the Hagley Collection (1974) and now the property of Ross & Carol Pratley of the 'Coin Colony' was sold in 1994 for $150,000.
The origins of the coin remain a mystery. It may have been struck at the Royal Mint in London where the die was manufactured, or perhaps produced in Perth as a test or demonstration and never recorded.
