These coins were sold for 3/- each to help pay the costs of the centenary celebrations. Of the 75,000 struck, 21,000 remained unsold and were later returned to the Melbourne mint for re-melting, leaving a net mintage of just 54,000 pieces.
Occasionally these coins are found in Mark Foys or Foy and Gibson (WA) bags. The former is scarce while the latter, issued at a Perth branch store, is very rare.
In 1995, the design on the reverse of the coin was used as a privy mark on a 1995 2oz silver bullion coin.
In 1998, the Canberra mint released a .999 Silver Florin/Twenty Cents frosted proof coin with a reverse design struck from a modified die used for the production of the 1934-35 Melbourne Centenary florin reverse.
