Notes:

The sterling silver 1992 Space Five Dollar coin was released at the NAA Coin fair held in Adelaide in September, 1992. It was distributed, encapsulated, in a square silver leatherette, hinged lid case protected by a special presentation box.
The reverse design of this commemorative $5 coin was the result of an Australia-wide competition held during late 1991. The winner was John Skillington, a teacher from Albury in N.S.W.

In response to the competition brief, which called for designs reflecting Australia's role in the space industry and the benefits of space technology to our lifestyles, his design features the form of the Southern Cross as a suggestion of satellites orbiting above and scanning a globally rendered Australian continent.
