The reverse design depicts one of the most famous stories to come out of the Gallipoli campaign. It is based on the scultpure 'Simpson and his Donkey' by Peter Corlett, on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Stretcher-bearers such as Simpson, with their devotion and compassion for their fellow men, symbolise much of what Anzac means to modern Australians and New Zealanders.
| The uncirculated coins were distributed mounted, unsealed, on a self-standing cardboard sheet. A total of 33,752 Australian 1990 ANZAC Five Dollar proof coins were released in a joint venture with New Zealand. Together with a 1990 ANZAC New Zealand Five Dollar proof coin, the pair were sold in a 75th ANZAC Anniversary package for $75. The set not only commemorates the Anzac spirit but also the close ties between Australia and New Zealand. Valuation of the packaged proof pair is shown below: | ![]() |
