A-404 Obverse: GEORGE NICHOLS round above OPPOSITE curved above CORNER TO in 2 straight lines in center with POST : OFFICE : in 2 curved lines below, all within a plain inner circle. BOOKSELLER & STATIONER above and . MELBOURNE . below, round between inner circle and beaded rim.
Reverse: Stokes Australian Arms (A-11) - shield with kangaroo to left and emu to right as supporters. VICTORIA 1862 above inside beaded rim. T. STOKES. MAKER 100 COLLINS ST. EAST MELBOURNE in 2 lines of small letters below. Kangaroo's head is level with the base of the T in VICTORIA and center top sunray points between I and A in VICTORIA. ADVANCE AUSTRALIA on the scroll. Normal alignment.
A-405 Obverse: As for A-404.
Reverse: Stokes Australian Arms (A-10) - kangaroo's head is fully below the T in VICTORIA and center top sunray points to base of second I in VICTORIA. Upset alignment.
