Notes:
J C Thornthwaite, the first Australian token maker, lacked the facilities to produce high quality pieces. The penny tokens he made for John Allen, and his brother William Allen were rejected because of the quality. They were subsequently sold and used by the Annandale tollkeeper on Sydney's Parramatta Road. Ironically, the rarity of these tokens now makes them among the most valuable of the Australian & New Zealand token series.
In 1980, one specimen was located with the Museum of Arts & Sciences in NSW and another with the Victorian Science Museum.
