Notes:

The decision to strike a dollar coin was made too late for it to be included in the proof set and mint set released by the Canberra mint in 1984. For collectors, the coin was released separately in a specimen bubble pack. It was also released in proof form, encapsulated and housed in a special blue/grey hinged lid presentation case.

The issue of the dollar coin in 1984 was the first time in Australian Numismatic history that a coin was struck to directly replace a circulating note. The dollar note was rapidly withdrawn from circulation. A number of first and last coin and note packs were issued to commemorate the event.

In 1992, an uncirculated version of the 1984 dollar was included in a One Dollar Five Coin Set released by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra.
