Notes:
In 1965, the 'Australian Coin Review' ran a design competition for Australia's new decimal coins. The successful design, originally for a twenty cent coin, was not used for a number of reasons, the chief one being that the panel appointed to select the designs was seeking a common theme for all coins in the series, not a series of individual designs.
In 1967, a re-worked variation of the design depicting a 100 cent (dollar) was struck by John Pinches of London in three versions - 1,500 in uncirculated, specimen quality silver with a milled edge, 750 in proof silver form with a plain edge and a further 100 in proof gold form with a plain edge..
