Notes:
This coin was issued to commemmorate the dawn of a new millennium with the arrival of the year 2000. The coin features the three heavenly bodies - the Moon, the Earth and the Sun - aligning to create a magnificent celestial setting. A companion $20 millennium bi-metal gold and silver coin was also released by the Perth Mint.In the foreground is the textured surface of the Moon, while the Earth features as the central image sitting above the Moon's horizon. The Earth is depicted on a gold insert and shows the Australian and Asian continents. An emerging sun is depicted in colour, its rays creating a spectacular sunburst and aurora at the crescent of the Earth.
The Perth Mint gave each purchaser of the coin the opportunity to have their name and coin certificate number recorded in a special Australian Millennium Register. The register, placed on display at the Mint before being archived, will be accessible to future generations, providing a link to Australia's millennium celebrations.
This coin was included in 1,000 1oz Silver Millennium 4-Coin Sets released by the Perth mint.
As a special memento to celebrate the birth of a child in the year 2,000, the coin was also made available in a special baby pack. The complete package serves as a free-standing display frame.
