Monkey Mia, a small isolated community on the western most tip of the Australian continent, is famous for the school of bottlenose dolphins that have been living in the area and interacting with the human population for as long as anyone can remember. This tiny fishing community is nearly two hours drive down a dirt road from the main north/south highway and 900 kilometers north of Perth. The area is carefully managed by the Department of Conservation and Land Management, which controls the growing number of tourists who make the long trek every day to see the dolphins. The Department also keeps a close eye on the health of the dolphin community. The design on the privy mark depicts a juvenile dolphin above the waves of the Indian Ocean.
