The impressive complex, built into the contours of Capital Hill, provides a majestic home for the legislature of our modern nation. From its towering 81 metre flagmast to the stunning marble columns and staircases of the foyer, Parliament House is a work of art itself. The building houses more than 3,000 art works, many of which are installed in public spaces and echo the building's symbolic theme - the discovery, exploration and settlement of Australia.
| The building, which belongs to the people of Australia, is open to the public every day of the year. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the New Parliament House, the Royal Australian Mint created this proof one Troy ounce fine silver $1 coin. Incorporated in the design is a replica of the 1988 Commemorative $5 issued at the time the building was opened. The coin is housed, encapsulated, in a blue leatherette, hinged lid presentation case protected by a colourful cardboard box. | ![]() |
