Notes:

The 1997 one ounce Windmill Privy Kookaburra & Chick $1 silver coin is the ninth in a series of 15 privy marked coins released by the Perth Mint over a three year period to celebrate the countries forming the European Union. This coin honours Netherlands who joined the European Union in 1958.
The mill consists of a large square house with sails on one side. The structure can be turned completely on the wooden frame on which it sits. The miller can observe whether the wind is turning the sails through apertures cut at the sides of the house. Windmills are powered by the wind and are used primarily to pump water or generate electricity. They have four long arms with cloth sails or shutters mounted on them. There are two types of windmill in Holland; polder or waterwheel mills, created to drain large tracks of land, and the others used only for industrial purposes are named according to their use.
For centuries, the farmers of Holland also used the mills for sending messages such as births, deaths and marriages by varying the positions of the sails. Today, there are still about 950 windmills left in Holland, with some 300 still in use.
