Notes:
The 1996 one ounce Atomium Privy Kookaburra in Flight $1 silver coin is the fifth in a series of 15 privy marked coins released by the Perth Mint over a three year period to celebrate the countries forming the European Union. This coin honours Belgium who joined the European Union in 1958.
 | The Atomium is an aluminium structure that symbolises the atom in the form of an iron crystal molecule. It rises to 120 metres in height and represents an enlargement of 165 billion times the size of the central cubic system of the atom. Access to the structure is through a lift to the top and with escalators between its spheres.
Located in Laken, a northern district popular with all tourists, the Atomium was designed by Eugene Waterkeyn. It was built as a permanent symbol of the 1958 Brussels World Fair. Appropriately, in three of the spheres, there is an exhibition on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. |
