Notes:
The 1996 one ounce Eiffel Tower Privy Kookaburra in Flight $1 silver coin is the second in a series of 15 privy marked coins released by the Perth Mint over a three year period to celebrate the countries forming the European Union. This coin honours France who joined the European Union in 1958.
 | The Eiffel Tower is a 6,400 tonne iron and steel structure that rises 300 metres from a 123 metres square base. Located on the Left Bank in a park called the Champs de Mars in Paris, the tower has lifts and stairs leading to the top. It also includes restaurants and a weather station.
Designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel for the World Fair of 1889, the Tower remained as the world's tallest structure for many years. |
During World War II it was used as a military observation station and since 1953 for transmitting television programs. Today, the Eiffel Tower is a glittering spectacle at night and is a major tourist drawcard. Throughout the world, it is a well-recognised symbol of France and particularly Paris.
