Notes:
The 1996 one ounce Brandenburg Gate Privy Kookaburra in Flight $1 silver coin is the first in a series of 15 privy marked coins released by the Perth Mint over a three year period to celebrate the countries forming the European Union. This coin honours Germany who joined the European Union in 1958.
 | The Brandenburg Gate, located on the Unter den Linden, stands as a symbol of German strength. Constructed of Silesian Sandstone, it is 20 metres high, 62 metres wide and 11 metres deep, and has six Doric columns on each side, forming five passages. On top of the Gate is the most important feature, Johann Gottfried Schadow's creation of the Quadriga, a four-horse chariot driven by the Goddess of Victory. |
The Gate was built for King Frederick William II between 1788 and 1791 by Carl Gotthard Langhans the Elder. It was once removed and transported to Paris after Napoleon's victory over Prussia. It was damaged during World War II and subsequently restored. Today, visiting tourists continue to be captivated by this imposing structure and its history.
