Notes:

The 1996 two ounce Spade Guinea Privy Kookaburra & Chick $2 silver coin was released at the NAA Sydney Coin Fair in March, 1996. The coin carries a gold inlay privy mark which represents the design of a British gold coin issued around the time of the First Settlement in 1788. The coin was known as a 'Spade' Guinea because of the shape of the shield on the reverse and was minted between 1789 and 1799. With a face value of 21 shillings, it was named 'Guinea' after the area where the gold was mined in Africa. In his proclamation of 1800, Governor King gave the coin an increased value of 22 shillings. The coin is part of a 4 coin privy mark set released by the Perth Mint at various coin shows throughout 1996.
