Notes:
The 1996 one ounce Goya Privy Kookaburra in Flight $1 silver coin was distributed, encapsulated, in a light blue velvet with black lining, hinged-lid presentation case and accompanied by a numbered certificate. The coin was released by the Perth Mint in tribute to the brilliance of Spanish painter Francisco
Goya. The privy mark depicts one of his most famous paintings, the provocative but inspiring La Maja Nude.
 | Francisco Goya (30 March, 1746 - 11 April,1828) was born and raised in humble settings and lived in a turbulent era marked by the rise in French revolutionism and the Spanish Inquisition. His formal introduction to drawing and painting began when he was fourteen years old but the style he went on to develop at the Royal Court of Spain did not fit the existing art scene of Baroque and Neoclassicism. |
His distinctive style emerged from the provincial Rococo genre and influenced the works of other artists who came after him
'La Maja Nude' may be seen as a 'modern interpretation of the myth of Venus', with its apparent emphasis on the sensuality of the character. This type of painting set the scene for a new approach to French painting in the nineteenth century.
Often considered to be ahead of his time, Goya lives on today through his paintings which are highly regarded, studied and researched.
