Notes:

The 2001 one ounce Prospector with Colour $100 gold coin, housed in a jarrah presentation case, features a ceramic tile on the lid depicting a scene from the early Australian goldfields. The coin is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and was released as the first of a five coin series to celebrate the gold rushes which significantly contributed to the building of the Australian economy in the mid-18th century. The coin was also included in 650 5 coin gold proof sets released by the Perth mint.

The reverse design of the coin depicts a lone 'digger' panning for gold, with his tent and the night sky, both highlighted in colour, in the background.

As part of 150th Anniversary celebrations of the gold rush, the proof coin was released in combination with natural gold nuggets in two sets. In the first set - limited to an issue of 150 - the 1 oz gold Australian Prospector Coin was paired with a single nugget weighing approximately one quarter of an ounce. The pair are housed in a gold lacquered, hinged-lid presentation case.

The coins and nuggest were hoesed, encapsulated, in a polished blackbutt timber, hinged-lid presentation case.

The Perth Mint included a complimentary 55 minute video entitled 'The Prospectors' with each individual 1oz prospector coin or set that was purchased by mail order. The video told the story of the great gold discoveries in Australia and re-enacted famous events such as the Eureka uprising. The video sold separately for $36.

Golden Heritage Photographic Print

In early 2002, the Perth Mint released the first in a series of five specially commissioned 'Golden Heritage', limited edition photographic prints to celebrate the discovery of gold in Australia 150 years earlier. This first print, shot by renowned Australian panoramic landscape photographer Ken Duncan, shows a restored cottage bathed in the sun's golden glow. Originally owned by German immigrant Jon Krohmann, the cottage is part of the Hill End Historic Site near Bathurst, a region renowned for the earliest and richest gold discoveries in New South Wales.

Included within the 680mm x 430mm framed print is a 2001 Australian Prospector $100 one ounce gold proof coin.
