Only one type of milled edge is known, similar to the coarse mill of the type 1 variety.
Although a large number were struck (24,648), only a small percentage survived for long as profiteers, having discovering that the intrinsic gold content of the coin was greater than the one pound face value, melted them down for bullion. Production of the coins ceased on 13th February, 1853.
